Corpus Bach
Cello player Roel Dieltiens is asked by the Flanders Festival and Concertgebouw Bruges to perform the suites of Johann Sebastian Bach. Dieltiens in turn proposes to Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (with whom he co-created Rien de rien in 2000) to meet again on stage, now to perform dance around the music, rather than have Dieltiens perform the music to the dance.
Cherkaoui teams up with longtime assistant and dancer Nicolas Vladyslav. They work on a duet to orbit around the cellist, finding ways to translate the fluidity of the music in unison. Corpus Bach stands out for it's simple choreographic attention to every short sequence with each suite. The piece highlights the bond between the two dancers, their twinship and their common movement language. They also explore verticality through experiments with a Chinese pole, heritage of their work with Ali Ben Lotfi Thabet in Tempus Fugit. This piece is the last one Cherkaoui creates within the collective of Les Ballets C. de la B.
