Hans Op de Beeck
Hans Op de Beeck is a Belgian visual artist. He has developed his international career through numerous exhibitions. His work focuses on our uneasy relationship with time and space. He shows the viewer non-existent but identifiable places. The key themes are the disappearance of distance, the disembodiment of the individual and the abstraction of time. Hans Op de Beeck is a great admirer of ancient pictorial art. For him, it is like a window on the world that compels you to observe, an invitation to be alone with the image or in the image.
Apart from his visual and video work, Hans Op de Beeck was already active as an author and theatre director. In 2018, he made the leap to opera with Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle in Stuttgart. In September 2019, he designed Don Carlos at the Flanders Opera.
Vlaemsch is also an opportunity for Cherkaoui and Op de Beeck to reunite. Their first collaboration, Stoic, was commissioned by GöteborgsOpera Danskompani and was the third part of a trilogy focusing on Greek philosophy: Noetic (2014), Icon (2016), and Stoic (2018).
