The Austrian singer Michaela Riener focuses on Historical Performance Practice of Early Music and the performance of Contemporary Music.

In 2010 she completed her Masters degree in Early Music at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where she studied with Jill Feldman, Gerda van Zelm, Michael Chance and Peter Kooij.

Her interest in different musical styles and her background as a pianist has ensured that she is closely involved in a wide variety of chamber music formations.

She puts Historical Performance Practice and the search for new repertoire and innovative forms of performance first in her work with ensembles (Ratas del Viejo Mundo, Utopia Ensemble, Calamus Consort).

Parallel to her Early Music practice is Michaela’s intensive study of contemporary classical music and close collaborations with composers. Since 2012, she has been a member of the music theater collective Silbersee. She likes to tread the paths of music theater and audiovisual art and explores the boundaries between written and improvised music.

As a soloist she has performed at renowned European festivals with music by Louis Andriessen, Michael Gordon, Yannis Kyriakides, David Lang, Kate Moore, Martijn Padding, Steve Reich, Wolfgang Rihm etc.
