Shak Shakito
Shak Shakito, whose real name is Shamba Benoit Olela, was born in the small town of Lodja, in the province of Kasaï-Oriental, located in the center of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He was 14 when he joined his sister in the country’s capital Kinshasa, about 2000 km from his hometown. In Kinshasa, he studied painting at the National Institute of Fine Arts. In his working-class neighborhood, his neighbor brightened up the nights with the sound of his guitar. This is how Shak Shakito decided to learn to play the guitar to accompany the texts he wrote. He then definitively exchanged his brushes for the guitar and enrolled at the National Institute of Arts, where he graduated in music in 2007.
In 2008, at the Festival Cœur d'Afrique in Kinshasa, he launched his professional musical career, with his stage name Shak Shakito. He plays in the main festivals and the biggest stages of Kinshasa.
As a talented guitarist and composer, he participates in multidisciplinary projects of dance (Matshina Dance Festival) and theater (Ça se passe à Kin). In 2013, he performed at the International University Music Festival (FIMU) in Belfort, France. In 2016, FIMU invited him again to celebrate its 30th edition.
As author, composer, singer and musician, he produced and released his first album Fausses Notes in 2011. In February 2017, he chose the French Institute of Kinshasa to present the release of his second album Ngelo.
