Darryl E. Woods
Born in Nashville Tennessee in 1959, Darryl commenced his dance training at The Florence School of Ballet, Florence, Alabama. He then continued his training at Ballet Alabama under the direction of Dame Sonia Arova. After moving to New York City, Darryl attended Arthur Mitchell's Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alvin Ailey and Steps@74th where he performed The Nutcracker and also performed in the Metropolitan Opera House production of Porgy and Bess.
Darryl made his European debut with a tour of Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies. After relocating to Europe, he met up with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui while collaborating on the Alain Platel production Iets op Bach. This was a beginning of many lasting personal and professional relationships.
The result being, Darryl working with former Iets op Bach-colleagues Lisi Estaras, Einat Tuchman and Isnelle da Silveira in Batime. Darryl was then asked by Cherkaoui to join the cast of Foi, Myth and Babel(words). He was also Cherkaoui's assistant on the production Tempus Fugit.
Darryl has also performed with the Toneelhuis production of Angels in America and the KVS production of Het Leven en de Werken van Leopold II. He has performed in many television and film projects.
