Tsubasa Hori was born in 1976 in Kyoto, Japan. She started playing piano at age 3 and taiko at age 11. In 1990 she entered the Kyoto Horikawa Music High School to study Western classical percussion and theory. After graduating, she became a drummer in the Japanese rock scene.

In 1996 she entered the apprenticeship centre of Kodo, a Japanese drumming group of taiko (Japanese traditional drums) based on Sado Island, and she became a member of Kodo in 1999. With Kodo she performed in more than 20 countries. She played taiko and other percussion instruments, koto (Japanese traditional instrument from the zither family) and sang folk songs. In 2008 Tsubasa put together a female based Wadaiko production, named Cocon, allowing the exploration of female Taiko performance in this artform. Until 2010, the year she left Kodo, she was a main performer and composer of the group.

In 2010 Tsubasa moved to Antwerp and became a citizen of Belgium, where she collaborated with musicians whose work is pushing the definition of genre: theater productions, dance works, fashion related performances, and visual art. Tsubasa is also a composer and arranger. Her style is based on her intensive research of music and dance all over Japan. She has worked on several projects with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui including Play, Rein, Labyrinth and TeZukA, and as a second cast member in Babel(words), Noetic and Icon.
