Woojae graduated from the Korea National University of Arts and was a winner of the National Korean Music Competition. His two recitals were sponsored by the Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation (Contemporary Korean Music, Geomungo Four New Face, 2005) and the ARCO gallery (Here and Now, 2006) and he was invited as a young soloist by the Nangye Korean Music Festival.


Woojae developed his own plectrum, used to play a Korean harp, and also developed stroke styles that use the plectrum and bow. Through these playing styles he created a unique world of music and creativity, and expanded the performance boundary of the geomungo (six-stringed Korean zither instrument).

He has also worked with modern choreographers such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Nam Jin Kim and Seung Yeup Hong, and has been in charge of composition and music performance. With Cherkaoui he collaborated on 49-Jae and TeZukA.

In 2014 his solo album, Geomungo Extension, was released. This eclectic album has revolutionized geomungo music and elevated it to the world stage with four songs -”Passivity”, ”Elation”, “Morphosis” and “Caress”, displaying Park’s unique stroke technique and bow utilization that transforms the geomungo from an instrument you pluck into one that reverberates with the strokes of a bow. In 2015 he worked with L.A. Dance Project 3 for Harbor Me and with the National Dance Company of Korea for Ceremony 64 as musical director.

He has worked with the music group The Baramgot Ensemble, directed by Won Il. The ensemble excels in both the playing of improvised folk music (sinawi) and the interpretation of various contemporary styles, and is acknowledged as the most creative and important music group in Korea today.
