Acacia Schachte, born in the United States and raised in Canada, started exploring dance at an early age. She received her training at Arts Umbrella in Vancouver under the direction of Artemis Gordon. In 1999, she began her professional career at Ballet British Columbia, where she danced for seven years. During this time she danced in many productions, among them works by Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe, Twyla Tharp, James Kudelka, Dominique Dumais, Jean Grand-Maitre, Serge Bennathan, and John Alleyne. In 2006 Acacia moved to New York where she joined Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. For eight seasons she performed around the world with the company and had the opportunity to work and create with choreographers such as Crystal Pite, Ohad Naharin, Hofesh Shechter, Jacopo Godani, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Andonis Foniadakis, Anjelin Preljocaj, Alexander Ekman, Emanuel Gat, Stijn Celis and Jo Stromgren. In 2010 she was the dance double for Emily Blunt in the film The Adjustment Bureau. In 2015 Acacia came to Europe to work with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. She assisted him in The Firebird for Stuttgart Ballet and danced in his creation of Les Indes galantes for the Munich Opera Festival. In 2016 she joined Royal Ballet Flanders where she has danced in works by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Merce Cunningham, Akram Khan, Ohad Naharin, Pina Bausch, Martha Graham, and Hofesh Shechter, among others. She has taught for the Korea National University and NYC Dance Alliance. She choreographed two original works for the dancers of Royal Ballet Flanders through their Choreolab series, which has sparked her passion for choreography. Acacia is also excited to be on the faculty at Jacob’s Pillow in Massachusetts in the summer of 2019.
