Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui received the Culture Award from the Flemish Authorities in recognition of his major international talent and staggering productivity.

The jury had nothing but praise for the award winner: "Diversity is a recurring theme in all his productions - diversity in language, customs, rituals and religions. Time and again, he surpasses the anecdotalism of that cultural melting pot. On the stage, he forges a new sacramentality that deeply touches and moves the audience."

Flemish Minister for Culture Joke Schauvliege presented the Award to Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui on August 31 during the Theaterfestival in deSingel International Arts Campus in Antwerp.
