Götterdämmerung
In the period 2010-2013 Guy Cassiers directs the four-part opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen by Wagner at the Staatsoper in Berlin and Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
Cassiers interprets Der Ring as a dramatic story of our global world order, wherein the real power is in the hands of those who control, manipulate and distribute images and information. The opera cycle is conducted by the world-famous Daniel Bairenboim. Together with Arjen Klerkx and Kurt D’Haeseleer (video), Enrico Bagnoli (lighting) as well as Tim Van Steenbergen (costume) Cassiers combines Wagnerian vocabulary with today’s technical possibilities. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is involved for the choreography of the dance sequences in Götterdämmerung, the fourth part of the opera cycle. After Das Rheingold and Siegfried this is the third part of the cycle he’s contributing to.
