Soetkin Baptist
Soetkin Baptist (mezzo-soprano, born in 1985) started her musical education in 1994 in Galmaarden, where she took violin and later singing classes. She also sang in various ensembles and choirs, including Innamorati di Musica. In 2003 she continued her studies at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, with vocals as main instrument (Dina Grossberger), in addition to violin and piano. Six years later she graduated with high honors for singing.
From 2004 to 2009 she was the lead singer of Ishtar, the Belgian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2008.
From 2007 she was on stage with Chansons sans Paroles by Wouter Vandenabeele, her duo with Anne Van den Bossche (piano), Soetkin made in France with ensemble Polygone, her duo with guitarist Bert Candries and Duo Dès (with Eddy Peremans on guitar), Friday in the City (with Marty Townsend, among others). In addition, Soetkin is also a popular guest singer with, among others, Olla Vogala and she sings with Encantar.
Since April 2012, Soetkin has been a guest musician in Drumming by Anne Teresa De Keersmaekers' Rosas and she is a regular guest with Graindelavoix and the ensemble Psallentes.
In September 2013, Soetkin resided in Norway where she worked on her own repertoire under the title FuRua that was presented live to the public in 2015.
In September 2014, Soetkin made her musical theater debut with Liedjes met Wortels, commissioned by Zonzo Compagnie, together with Jan Van Outryve, a production that continues to receive international praise.
At the beginning of 2015 she played in Nerf, an Ultima Thule production in collaboration with Zefiro Thorna.
Since 2017 she has been part of Ratas del viejo Mundo, an international collective directed by Floris De Rycker.
From March 2018 she performed several seasons with the project Cold and Raw with Jan Van Outryve and Didier François.
Since 2019 she surprises audiences with her latest French chanson program Que Désire.
Meanwhile, Soetkin lives permanently in Norway and is part of the vocal ensemble VocalArt (NO). She is also a guest singer in Norway with Bodø Rhythm Group (Bodø, NO), Vokal Nord (Tromsø, NO), Musikk I Nordland (Narvik, NO) and plays in duo with pianist Sveinar Aase (NO). She also regularly performs as a soloist with Musikkfestuke Bodø (NO), Sagaspill Steigen (NO), Querini opera Røst (NO), Nordlys Festival Tromsø (NO) and Bodø Jazz open (NO).
