Patrizia Bovi
Born in Assisi, Patrizia Bovi studied voice at Perugia Conservatory and then with M° Sergio Pezzetti.
Early ensemble work included Medieval/Renaissance music with Ensemble Alia Musica (Milan), during which she attended various seminars on early vocal performance practice in Italy and Europe.
Currently she interprets sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Italian repertory including Monteverdi (Ballo delle Ingrate, Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, ecc) and related repertory (La Dafne from Marco da Gagliano, Euridice from Jacopo Peri and La Morte di Orfeo from Stefano Landi), and in subsequent years widened her areas of expertise to include music from the thirteenth- century through contemporary music.
In 1984 Patrizia Bovi founded Ensemble Micrologus, specialists of medieval Italian music whose performances continue to find acclaim among international audiences. Together with Micrologus she recorded numerous CDs for Quadrivium and Opus 111 including the prize-winning Landini and his contemporaries (Diapason d’or de l’anneè 1996), O Jesu dolce (Diapason d’or 1997), Napolitane (Diapason d’or de l’annèe 1999), and Carnivalesque (Diapason d’or 2014). With Micrologus she has co-directed 50 productions and over 1100 concerts. From 1990 to 2014 she joined the Quartetto Vocale Giovanna Marini, taking part in all its productions and tours.
Bovi has collaborated with various musicians, including Antonio Florio, Pino de Vittorio, Franco Pavan, Marcel Peres, Crawford Young, Chiara Banchini, Fadia Tomb El Hage, Françoise Atlan, Jean Tubery, Daniele Sepe, Vinicio Capossela, and Ramberto Ciammarughi. In the season of 2007 she directed and performed music for choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s project Myth, which saw performances in over eighty theaters in Europe and North America. In 2010 she performed and composed part of the music for Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet’s project Babel(words) and Cherkaoui’s Play. Her last projects with Cherkaoui were 4D+, 3S, Icon, and with Jalet: Babel 7.16.
Additionally, Bovi is actively teaching courses on medieval singing in settings such Corsi di Musica Antica (Urbino), Fondation Royaumont (Paris), University of Kracow (John Paul II), CIMM Montpellier, University of Texas (Austin), and Melbourne University. She teaches at the Centro Studi Europeo di Musica Medievale Adolfo Broegg in Spello since 2009.
In 2008 she was awarded the “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” from the Minister of French Culture.
