Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Astrid trained and competed as an Irish dancer from the age of 11. In 2012, she was accepted into the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London. Upon graduation she joined Scottish Dance Theatre and throughout her time there Astrid had the privilege to perform works by choreographers Sharon Eyal, Damien Jalet, Anton Lachky, Botis Seva, Colette Sadler, and Fleur Darkin. She has since then engaged in various projects as a freelancer, having worked with Iván Pérez (ES), La Verita Dance Company (BE), Luke Murphy (IE) and was part of ANIMA in 2019, a short film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and a collaboration between Damien Jalet and Thom Yorke. Astrid has most recently collaborated with Belgian choreographer Alexander Vantournhout in the solo creation of Epaulette, and in the research of his work in development Contre-Jour. She will be part of the 2021/2022 creation as well as the European and Asian tour of Planet [wanderer], produced by the Chaillot Theatre in Paris and choreographed by Damien Jalet. Aside from her career as a performer, Astrid is taking steps towards fulfilling her choreographic curiosity and is particularly interested in collaborating with artists of contrasting disciplines, providing new mediums and different entry points to her artistic enquiry. In 2020, Astrid collaborated with London based poet and filmmaker Zara Joan Miller on Soft Rio, an experimental short film shot on 66mm which has been screened at Lausanne Underground Film Festival, amongst others. She will be creating her first work Ontogensis Dreams alongside visual artist Weixin Chong, which has been selected for the inaugural Esplanade Performing Arts Residency and will undergo further development in Singapore from April-June 2022.
